Idli is a steamed cake originating from Southern India. Idlis are made in a specialized mold and eaten with chutney, vegetable stew or other flavorful toppings for breakfast or as a snack.

These small treats are good for you and, as a bonus, convenient for those on the go. To make your diet a bit healthier, swap a donut or muffin for an idli.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp refined oil
  • Pinch of heeng
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp chilli flakes
  • Water
  • Salt to taste
  • 8-10 Curry patta
  • 2 chopped Green chilli
  • 10 to 15 cooked idlis
  • 4 tbsp grated coconut

Method:

  1. For tadka, Heat oil in a pan, add heeng and mustard seeds till they crackle.

  2. Add chilli flakes  and remove from flame. Add ½ tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp south Indian curry powder.

  3. Again place pan on the gas, and add water to moisten.

  4. When water reduces, add salt , curry leaves  and green chilli. Now, add idli and cook. Remove in a bowl, garnish with grated coconut and serve hot with a chutney of your choice.
